Join cellists Zoe Knighton and Joshua Dema in "For the Birds!", a program that explores the many ways composers have drawn inspiration from our natural world through the expressive range of the cello.

Blending solo and duo repertoire, the program moves between baroque elegance, contemporary Australian works, and evocative modern compositions. Music by J.S. Bach sits alongside works by Australian composers Sarah Hopkins, Helen Mountfort, Katy Abbott, and Elena Kats-Chernin, as well as Tanya Anisimova, Kari Henrik Juusela, and F. A. Kummer.

Through lyrical lines, percussive textures, and extended techniques, the cello is transformed, at times singing, calling, and echoing like birds in flight. This concert invites audiences into a sound world that is both intimate and imaginative.
