The Program
Beethoven String Trio G Major Opus 9
Intermission
Bach Goldberg Variations Arr. Sitkovsky
Renowned musicians Zoë Black (violin), Caroline Henbest (viola) and Molly Kadarauch (cello) have devised a "bucket list" of pieces that comes from the hearts of each of them.
Beethoven’s G major String Trio is a joyful work full of energy and excitement where each instrument is showcased and the conversional elements of the writing are front and centre. For Caroline especially, the piece is significant as it is the work which inspired her to become a viola player and leave the violin behind! Also in G major, Bach’s Goldberg Variations (originally for keyboard) have been arranged for string trio by Dimitri Sitkovetsky. Both lyrical and imaginative, this powerful and captivating work foregrounds each player’s musicianship and virtuosity.

Douglas Weiland "Twelve Words" op. 43 for string trio
and speaker
Markiyan and William have devised a special musical experience which includes Douglas Weiland's String Trio '12 Words from the Cross'. Weiland, who was a founding member of the Australian String Quartet and is a major contributor to Australian musical history, has been praised for his "music of palpable humanity and profound vision." His String Trio showcases his unique and touching musical voice and will take the listener on a memorable artistic journey.
The program also includes Beethoven's String Trio which, as we heard earlier, is an extraordinary work filled with the drama and energy of a young genius setting out to conquer the world with his music.
Zoë, Caroline and Molly presented the G Major Opus 9 in our first recital this year and, building from a shared narrative that connects the two programs at a thematic level, Markiyan and William together with Molly will now continue the exploration of this masterwork with the C minor, Op. 9 No. 3.
